Summarize the purpose of your Genius Hour project in 140 characters.
The purpose of my Genius Hour project was to find most of the animals at the animal shelter a loving home and inspire more people to volunteer with the animals.
Explain the process of your Genius Hour project. Be reflective. Be contemplative. Explain and describe your journey.
I had to apply to volunteer at the animals shelter to start off, then as the days went on, I grew attached to each and every animal there. It was hard to see them go, but I knew it was for the best. The application process was long and strenuous. The owners of the Almost Home Animal Shelter were very kind and were the ones that showed me how to care for the animals there. Caring for these animals was a great decision on my part.
Day after day as i cleaned their cages, a band grew between myself and each and every animal there. I would help them socialize, with not only the other animals but other volunteers as well. A the time came closer to say a final goodbye to teach animal that got adopted, I would spend more time with them. The animals got to spend more time with other humans, rather than being stuck in their cages all day. The animals deserve only what is best for them.
The process of getting so close with each animal was the easy part of volunteering, the hard part was seeing them leave. It was hard to watch them leave, but I know that they were going to good homes.
The intention For Genius Hour is NOT only to learn, but ALSO to share your knowledge with others who can and will benefit from your learning. How did you share your learning? What do you hope the result might be?
I hope that others can learn to help animals to the best of their abilities. Every animal deserves to be with a loving family with many family members that can show each animal the affection that it needs. To help others learn that they can help others, by helping them to find animals that could help with any issues that someone may have. Animals can be very therapeutic, and can help with almost any disabilities. I hope that more animals find forever homes with people that care for them as much as I cared for them.
I hope that in the future there are no homeless animals. Every animal should be with people that can give them the affection that they deserve.
If you could do anything different with your Genius Hour project what would you do differently and why?
If i could change anything about my Genius Hour Project it would be that I didn't get as many people to volunteer as I would have liked.
Reflect on what you did well during this Genius Hour process? Note your successes and accomplishments.
There weren't that many animals at the animal shelter to begin with, but when I was volunteering there were less than we began with.
